We have some doubts regarding the online interactive session streaming
requirements.
Do we need to share the screen while taking session, for slides?

പങ്കുവെക്കാനുള്ള സൌകര്യം വേണം.

How many instances/ sessions will be there at a time for a session?

എന്തായാലും ചുരുങ്ങിയത് 5ാം തീയതി എങ്കിലും പരിപാടി നടത്താന്‍ പറ്റണം,
അപ്പോ ഒരു ഒന്നാം തീയതി എങ്കിലും ട്രയല്‍ ഓടിക്കണം

I am interested to work on interactive session streaming as my company
already provide live streaming services. Sadly, I am heavily loaded this
week. If I get some time, I'll be happy to help.

Regarding Sooraj's server, we are migrating it to a new provider, so
that it can also act as a off-site backup for poddery.com. Not yet
finalized about the data center. It will be either in Netherlands or
Germany. The minimum server specs will be as below.

2 vCores @ 3.50GHz
KVM Virtualization
1024MB RAM
80GB RAID10
1TB OUTBOUND
5 IPv6 / 1 IPv4

I have manged to install BigBlueButton in Ubuntu 10.04 Server. I used
the following guide

You may need to set <your_ip> using bbb-conf as
bbb-conf --setip <your_ip>

after installing bbb.

We have managed setting up OpenMeetings at
http://eaudenil.coolwrks.com:5080/openmeetings/.

Myself and Shameer tested it. The audio sync was fine, Shameer could see
me, but since he didn't have cam, we couldn't test two way video. The
Whiteboard feature also works well. Not much familiar with the interface
and features. If someone could figure those out, it would be great.
Basically, it works and I hope it could cover our needs.

If more people are available to test, we can schedule a test session
today itself.

already provide live streaming services. Sadly, I am heavily loaded this
week. If I get some time, I'll be happy to help.
Regarding Sooraj's server, we are migrating it to a new provider, so
that it can also act as a off-site backup for poddery.com. Not yet
finalized about the data center. It will be either in Netherlands or
Germany. The minimum server specs will be as below.

We tested OpenMeetings today with around 5 users online at a time. Since
bandwidth was limited for me, when there were more users, data transfer
goes above 512Kbps, causing audio and video to break. Due to this issue,
I couldn't check whether the server was causing any bottleneck. Server
load was fine and the data transfer was around 400Kbps down and 1.5Mbps
uplink when the testing was going on. Apart from that, everything was
fine. The Audio/Video sync was good, we tried uploading slides to the
whiteboard and multiple users played with the board at the same time.

Some users had issues with video, as it required flash to detect the
cams. I hope everyone who were present at the test session will share
their feedbacks here.

We have managed setting up OpenMeetings at
http://eaudenil.coolwrks.com:5080/openmeetings/.
Myself and Shameer tested it. The audio sync was fine, Shameer could
see me, but since he didn't have cam, we couldn't test two way video.
The Whiteboard feature also works well. Not much familiar with the
interface and features. If someone could figure those out, it would be
great. Basically, it works and I hope it could cover our needs.
If more people are available to test, we can schedule a test session
today itself.

I suggest having small-duration desktop sessions recorded with
applications like *istanbul* and placing them online so that students
can take them at their own leisure time. Calicut University insists on
all students to necessarily complete a "Compulsory Social Service"
component as part of their UG curriculum. This is spread over five
semesters. I guess we can make the most out of this opportunity by
*forcing/persuading* students to take these online sessions and
contribute. This option would be the best, and would necessarily
attract students.

This should have been enforced long back. Its indeed a pity to see the lot
of the student community (in pioneer institutes of the nation)
uncomfortable with the Unix / Linux platforms. Forget the philosophy behind
the libre culture.
